sustainable wood products

"Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

World commission on environment and development (WCED)

Eco-conscious, sustainable, and local — Ethos Millwork strives to maintain the delicate balance between ecological responsibility, economic prosperity, and social values by using our natural resources carefully and innovatively in order to safeguard our ecosystems while providing viability and stimulus to our local communities and economy.

Eco-conscious

We exercise a strict zero-wastage policy. Careful attention is taken at every step of our flooring manufacturing process to ensure that all off-cuts are usable for making furniture, stair nosing, and other wood products. As a last resort, unusable wood, shavings, and sawdust have replaced the use of fossil fuels to heat our kiln.

Sustainable

zero-waste

Wood flooring is an inherently sustainable product and well-known for its health and allergy-related benefits. Wood flooring contributes to the ongoing pursuit of healthy homes and families. As wood flooring is an easily recyclable product, our zero-wastage policy can be carried on even after the finished product has left our mill.

Our practice of reusing lumber capitalizes on the labour of previous generations and ensures that their legacy is preserved for generations to come. Today, the re-milling of lumber creates jobs for local Canadian residents at every stage of its production, from sourcing and recovering raw material to installing, finishing, and maintaining our products.

We only use recycled materials that were responsibly gathered; lumber that was salvaged from unique decommissioned sites or trees that were rescued or lost to disease. As part of our commitment to help ensure the ongoing viability of our existing forests, we only purchase new lumber from sustainable second-growth forests.

Local

Ethos Millwork is committed to the local community. Most of our employees live within a several-mile radius of our facilities, enabling them to walk or bike to work. Ethos is committed to building our business and our community; whether on an individual or a corporate level, the people of Ethos Millwork are well-connected to the local school district, service clubs, and charitable organizations.
